Ararat Regional Art Gallery
Located in the heart of Ararat in the historic Town Hall building, Ararat Regional Art Gallery offers an exciting program of exhibitions across all areas of the visual arts. Established in 1968, the Gallery has a unique place amongst Australian public galleries through a longstanding commitment to supporting and promoting contemporary textile fibre art.
Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre
The world class Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre tells the story of miners from Southern China and brings to life the social, environmental and political situations of immigrant miners in the mid 1800’s.
J Ward Gaol Museum
J Ward started its life as a goldfields prison in 1859. When the gold ran out in the mid 1880s the prison buildings were acquired by the Lunacy Department as a temporary housing for the Criminally Insane. The County Gaol then became a ward (J Ward) of the Ararat Lunatic Asylum where the most depraved and most dangerous men in Victoria were housed in horrific conditions under the highest security.
The Grampians & Pyrenees wine regions are right on Ararat’s doorstep. There is a plethora of wineries within an easy half-hour drive of Ararat, including Mount Langi Ghiran, Montara Wines, Seppelt Wines, Best’s Wines & Grampians Estate.
